Reports are in the Ricky Rubio will not be coming to Minnesota this season

I'm going to preface this post by saying there has not been an official statement and so this could be total fiction in a matter of days but...

Reports are in from multiple sources confirming that Rick Rubio, the young rising star from Spain, will stay in his home country and continue to play in the European Basketball league for at least one more, and likely two more years. Rubio supposedly spent the summer discussing getting out of the contract and high priced buy-out from his Spanish team. It has now been released that instead of coming to Minnesota to play for the Timberwolves, Ricky Rubio will be playing for Regal Barcelona and living with his parents, which just goes to show that at his young age he might not be ready for the rigors of professional sports.

ESPN writer, Chris Sheridan reported that if Rubio waits to come until 2012 it would make the most monetary sense (really more like lots of millions of dollars). He could wait and not be considered a rookie and therefore would be entitled to a higher salary.

While it seems that drafting Ricky Rubio may have been a huge mistake, perhaps this works out for the better. Rubio gets two more years to mature and grow as a player and the Timberwolves will maintain his trading rights in the mean time. Looks like Johnny Flynn is going to get his shot after all.
