Remeber Ty Lawson? Well we kind of do. He was drafted with the #18 pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets. He scored 37 points and hit 10 3-point shots against the T'pups in a 130-106 blowout. In hindsight, it was a rough draft. After owning the #5, the #6, and #18 picks, General Manager David Kahn did not get the value he could have gotten. #6 pick Jonny Flynn has struggled in his second season and many with basketball knowledge believe he is on his way out this offseason. The revenge of Ty Lawson.

Minnesota Timberwolves Trounce Detroit Pistons 116-105
The Minnesota Timberwolves kept up their winning ways, taking down the Detroit Pistons in Detroit on Wednesday night 116-105. Kevin Love, of course, put up his 48th consecutive double-double and scored 20 points, as well as 20 rebounds. Starting point guard Luke Ridnour scored 15 points and didn't miss a shot, and backup Jonny Flynn had eight points and a career-high 14 assists. New Timberwolf Anthony Randolph scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. It was a great all around game for the T'pups and let's hope it continues at the Philadelphia 76ers.

Minnesota Timberwolves Trounce Toronto Raptors
The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Toronto Raptors 103-87 on Saturday night at the Target Center. It was a solid victory for the team and it sent the Raptors to their 11th consecutive loss. The Timberwolves played some suprisingly suffocating defense and held DeMar DeRozan and Andrea Bargnani to shoot 7 of 35 from the field. Kevin Love continued his magnificance, posting 21 points and 12 rebounds for his 42nd double-double on the season. Martell Webster had 15 points, Wes Johnson had 14 points, and Jonny Flynn had a stat line of 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Can Jonny Flynn Produce?
If the Minnesota Timberwolves want to be a contender, they need to have a formidable point guard. In the 2009 NBA Draft, with the #5 and #6 pick, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected two point guards in Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn. We know that Rubio is still overseas and we hope that he comes to Minnesota to play. Meanwhile, Flynn did okay in his rookie season and now is slumping in his second season. You can say a number of things, he has been nagged by an injury or that the triangle takes away his game. Regardless, Flynn is not producing. He needs to have a larger role otherwise the team must assess his value. What are your thoughts on Jonny Flynn?

Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timbewolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have some much needed time off for a few days. After a busy and rigorous schedule, the Minnesota Timberwolves will play the Houston Rockets on Monday, January 24th at the Target Center. The Rockets are currently 20-23 while the Minnesota Timberwolves are 10-33. The Minnesota Timberwolves could use some home victories that might give them some momentum. A healthy Michael Beasley, Jonny Flynn, Martell Wesbter, Darko Milicic, and Wesley Johnson will help that cause. Kevin Martin is the leading scorer for the Houston Rockets, at 23.2 points per game. Power forward Luis Scola is averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds a game. Should be a good one. Purchase your Minnesota Timberwolves tickets with Ticket King today!

Minnesota Timberwolves Exploring Trade Market...
It has been speculated and reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves have been exploring possible trades with several NBA teams. Some names that have been thrown out there include Aaron Brooks from the Houston Rockets, OJ Mayo from the Memphis Grizzlies, and Anthony Randolph of the New York Knicks. Some of the Minnesota Timberwolves players that have been mentioned are Jonny Flynn, Luke Ridnour, and Sebastian Telfair, as well as our 1st round picks. Nothing has happened yet but I wouldn't be surprised if a deal came through sometime soon.

Minnesota Timberwolves Christmas List

Here is my Minnesota Timberwolves Christmas List:
1) An upgrade at shooting guard. I like the core of Michael Beasley, Kevin Love, and Darko Milicic. However, we need a guy who can drill the 3 and can create his own shot. Wesley Johnson and Corey Brewer have struggled at that.
2) An upgrade at perimeter defense. This team gets killed by the 3 pointer and it's shown against Phoenix and Los Angeles.
3) Point Guard play. Jonny Flynn has to become a more efficient point guard. Maybe Ricky Rubio can solve this.

Jonny Flynn To Play in D-League Game
Jonny Flynn will play for the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA D-League against the Iowa Energy on Friday night. It will be his first game since April. He has been out since having hip surgery that has sidelined him this season. Hopefully Jonny Flynn can have a good showing in the D-League and be back possibly next week. The Timberwolves could use him since he was the #6 overall pick last season. He runs the court very well and posted a 13.5 points per game last season with 4.4 assists. He also made the 2nd Team All-NBA Rookie Team.

Minnesota Timberwolves Fall 117-116 to Sacramento Kings
The Minnesota Timberwolves lost a tough opening game to the Sacramento Kings, 117-116 at the Target Center. There were some positives and negatives from the game, but it was a game that the Minnesota Timberwolves should have won on paper. They have more talent and depth than the Sacramento Kings (like the Cleveland Cavaliers beating the Boston Celtics that same night). The Kings led the majority of the 2nd half and while the Timberwolves kept crawling back, we just couldn't hold the lead. The Timberwolves missed Jonny Flynn and Martell Webster and I hope both can have a speedy recovery.Wesley Johnson showed his athleticism with a posterizing dunk for his first NBA points. He finished with 13 points and I hope he can get more minutes as he is a talented player. Luke Ridnour scored 20 points and looks like an efficient point guard. Kevin Love had a double-double in the first half, but didn't' play much in the 2nd half. Michael Beasley has the skill to get to the rim nearly every possession. I hope he can build on that.

Minnesota Timberwolves Playing in Syracuse, New York
The Minnesota Timberwolves will be taking on the Detroit Pistons in Syracuse, New York tonight. The Timberwolves boast 2 Syracuse alumni - Jonny Flynn and Wesley Johnson. Unfortunately, Flynn is still recovering from hip surgery and will not be able to play tonight. Hopefully Wesley can put on a clinic for the hometown fans their tonight.

Minnesota Timberwolves Preseason Home Opener
The Minnesota Timberwolves will have their preseason home opener tomorrow vs. the Denver Nuggets. There is a substantial amount of optimism heading into this season than compared to last season. Gone are guys like Ryan Hollins, Oleksiy Pecherov, Aleksandar Pavlović, Damien Wilkins, Ramon Sessions, and Ryan Gomes. With 9 new players, Minnesota Timberwolves fans can now witness if Michael Beasley, Wesley Johnson, Martell Webster, Nikola Pekovic, and Lazar Hayward can become NBA stars. Kevin Love and Jonny Flynn will be expected to become team leaders. There won't be many easy games for a team coming off of 15 wins, but the roster is now stock piled with talent that could make us 1 player away from being back in the playoff race.

Burnings Questions Going into Season
Going into a season with 9 new players leaves a lot of unknowns. Here are my burning questions going into this season:What is the realistic number of wins this team can achieve?
Who will be the leading scorer on this team?
Who will be the primary starters?
What will Welsey Johnson, Martell Webster, and Corey Brewer's stats look like?
What will Darko Milic and Nikola Pekovic do for the Wolves at center?
How many points will Michael Beasley average?
How many more points can Kevin Love average with possibly more playing time?
Will Jonny Flynn come back strong from injury and elevate his game?
Minnesota Timberwolves Open Up Training Camp
The Minnesota Timberwolves will begin training camp in Mankato on Saturday morning. The team will be without Jonny Flynn who is nursing a hip injury and recovering from surgery. The Minnesota Timberwolves will open up the season with 9 new players to their roster. Kurt Rambis claims he is excited about the new roster as it gives him more "athleticism, versatile, and length." I hope Rambis can channel the new talent and athleticism into wins this season. More news and notes to follow.

2010 Minnesota Timberwolves Roster Remodel Notes

After the 2010 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a new look to their roster. However, it is still far from finalized as Free Agency begins in 12 hours, trades can happen at any time, and some European prospects are still possibly joining the team. Here is set roster as of right now:
- G-F Corey Brewer
- PG Jonny Flynn
- F-C Kevin Love
- SF Wesley Johnson
- G Wayne Ellington
- C-F Al Jefferson
- G Ramon Sessions
- F Lazar Hayward
- F-G Martell Webster
Players who could end up back in Minnesota from last season: F Brian Cardinal, C Ryan Hollins, C Darko Milic, C Greg Stiemsma
Possible European draft picks to come over: C-F Nikola Pekovic, F Nemanja Bjelica, G Ricky Rubio (2011-2012)
The latest trade rumors have had the Dallas Mavericks interested in Al Jefferson. It will be interesting to see if General Manager David Kahn moves Jefferson and what package Minnesota would receive. The roster is building nicely, with several players that have been courted by other teams (Flynn, Love, Brewer, Jefferson). Johnson should be a huge upgrade while it would be great if Pekovic could come over from Europe. Prized prospect Ricky Rubio is expected to join next season.

Jonny Flynn Weakness - Court Vision
My thoughts on JONNY FLYNN WEAKNESSES:
Jonny Flynn really doesn’t have great court vision. He turns the ball over a lot and struggles to get his team mates involved. He only averaged 4.4 assists his rookie season. Unless Flynn learns to see the court well, he will be nothing more than a guy who comes in for scoring off the bench as a back-up point guard. This is the most important aspect of his game that he must learn to improve. Otherwise, he’s a shooting guard trapped in a point guard’s body. Flynn is not a very good outside shooter. Until Flynn acquires a consistent outside shot, teams will continue to sag off him and not let him attack the basket.
Defensively, Jonny Flynn is a huge liability against bigger point guards. Although he’s plenty strong and quick, he simply is overpowered by the likes of Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz or Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls. Flynn is also too small to be a factor on the boards. Sadly a lot of those weaknesses on the defensive end are not ones that he can improve, meaning he will need to use his smarts and quickness in order to become a good defender in the NBA.

Player of the Week: Jonny Flynn
Jonny Flynn was one of the most coveted players in last years NBA draft. The reason being is that Flynn is an explosive athlete who can get to the basket whenever he wants. Although he is short, listed at 6’1, Flynn makes up for that on the offensive side of the ball with his 40 inch vertical which allows him to finish at the rim with ease against taller defenders. Jonny Flynn can push the ball up the floor and beat anyone in the league 1 on 1. Flynn is a tough, charismatic leader who is well liked.
What he lacks in height, Flynn uses his athleticism to rattle his opponents on the defensive end. He has pretty good anticipation skills for steals as he averaged 1 steal per game his rookie season. Jonny Flynn also plays extremely hard on the defensive end, and his work ethic is something that the Wolves fell in love with when they drafted him. If Flynn can learn to see the court well and make others around him better while improving his outside shot, Jonny Flynn has the ability to play in a couple of NBA All Star games.

This week I am recording my thoughts on Jonny Flynn....COMMENT ME if you agree or disagree on my description of JONNY FLYNN STRENGTHS!

One Game left on the Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule
It has been a very hard season to be a Minnesota Timberwolves fan... with loss after loss the Minnesota Timberwolves roster has to be ready to give up the game. Tonight the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Detroit Pistons for the last game of the 2009-2010 Timberwolves Season.
Even if the Twolves walk away with a victory, which I think is highly unlikely, they will still be ranked last in the NBA and their season will be over. In many ways this is a blessing, the entire franchise needs to lay low for a week or so and then pull it together and start making some tough choices about next season. I am of the opinion that a coach should be given more than one season to prove himself, Kurt Rambis walked into a tough situation.
Despite talent like Jonny Flynn and Al Jefferson on the Timberwolves Roster, Coach Kurt Rambis had to basically start building a franchise... so to that light, I would rather see Rambis take a hard look at his game strategy and tailor that around his players than have the the Timberwolves find a new coach. Kurt Rambis has the potential to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves well, he just needs some time to do it.
Tonight's Minnesota Timberwolves game against the Detroit Pistons is at the Target Center and tips off at 7:00.

What the Minnesota Timberwolves need in order to have any fans for the 2010-2011 Minnesota Timberwolves Season
As you can see from this post's title... I'm over the 2009-2010 Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule, I have no other ways to say they suck and we lose alot. So instead, I'm moving on and looking to the future. It would be easy to say that what the Minnesota Timberwolves need to have a winning season next year is a new team, new coaching staff and new motivation... but like I said that would be the easy answer.
Realistically, the Minnesota Timberwolves should probably not set their sites at a winning Minnesota Timberwolves season and aim instead for fewer losses.
In my opinion the Timberwolves need: 1) a strong draft pick that could play off of Jonny Flynn, and be a play "finisher"someone who can work Kurt Rambis' triangle offense. 2) A varied offense, although the Timberwolves coaching staff has worked with the triangle offense, and it is effective at times, I think that it is time to consider doing something else. It is clear that Jonny Flynn is being billed as the talent on the team and therefore the Wolves need to run something that plays into his ability.
Without new talent and some serious overhauling to the Timberwolves game strategy, I don't think the Wolves will be able to maintain a fan base next season.

Minnesota Timberwolves just waiting for the Timberwolves Schedule to be over
It seems like at this point, the Minnesota Timberwolves might as well just skip the rest of their games and say enough is enough. After a another embarrassing loss last night to the Golden State Warriors, the Minnesota Timberwolves roster looks beat up and mentally drained.
Without Timberwolves powerhouse Al Jefferson, the Wolves just couldn't hold their game together. GSW rookie Stephen Curry ran Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Jonny Flynn in circles and kept him from having the kind of night he is capable of. Tonight the Timberwolves take on the LA Lakers... the entire franchise must be thinking, lets just get this over with quickly. With no wins in the entire month of March and a possible win-free April, the Minnesota Timberwolves are in sorry shape. With 24 losses in 26 games, the Twin Cities may need to consider changing the teams name to the Bad News Bears.
