Nuggets Hold Off Wolves

Arron Afflalo hit a tiebreaking floater in the lane with 33.7 seconds remaining in overtime to hold off the Minnesota Timberwolves, 103-101.

The Nuggets' reserve Al Harrington scored a season-high 31 points as the Nuggets beat the Wolves.

Kevin Love had 22 points and 13 rebounds for Minnesota, which snapped its three-game winning streak.

The Revenge of Ty Lawson

Ty LawsonRemeber Ty Lawson? Well we kind of do. He was drafted with the #18 pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets. He scored 37 points and hit 10 3-point shots against the T'pups in a 130-106 blowout. In hindsight, it was a rough draft. After owning the #5, the #6, and #18 picks, General Manager David Kahn did not get the value he could have gotten. #6 pick Jonny Flynn has struggled in his second season and many with basketball knowledge believe he is on his way out this offseason. The revenge of Ty Lawson.

Minnesota Timberwolves Rumored in 3 Team Trade

Anthony RandolphI was working out yesterday in the gym when across ESPN came a headline "Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks rumored in 3 team trade." I figured right away it was probably something to do with Carmelo Anthony, which it was. The rumor has it that Minnesota would depart with Corey Brewer and a 1st Round Pick and receive Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph from the New York Knicks. Brewer and the pick would go to Denver. My initial reaction: I'm sure we would buy out Curry, but giving up a 1st and Brewer for Randolph seems a little much. I know Randolph is talented but can he really make a significant impact for us? For some reason I see a lot of Martell Webster in his game. I would be suprised if this deal follows through.

Denver Nuggets 115, Minnesota Timberwolves 113

Kevin LoveThe wins are still hard to come by. Writing about the team is not. It is easy to see how different last year's team is from this year's team. The wins may not be flowing, but at least there are storylines this season. On Saturday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves were defeated by the Denver Nuggets 115-113. Kevin Love scored 43 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. The 43 points were a career high. Like I posted in my last full blog post, Kevin Love has been outstanding and should give HUGE consideration for the All-Star Game. Darko Milicic was hurt and unable to play. I hope he returns soon as he has played great lately. Next up is at the Los Angeles Clippers.

Cheap Timberwolves Tickets = Wolves Organization Desperation

I am on the Timberwolves marketing email list (as are most loyal Timberwolves fans, I presume) and the other day I got an email about cheap Timberwolves tickets. Here is the deal:

The Wolves are offering you an exclusive opportunity to test drive next season's Early Bird pricing. Purchase single game tickets at the special rate below to any of these three home games: Wolves vs. Mavericks (Mar. 31), Wolves vs. Nuggets (Apr. 5) or Wolves vs. Kings (Apr. 15).

$100 seats for $60
$70 seats for $35
$50 seats for $20
$35 seats for $10
$20 seats for just $5

Enter your password EARLYBIRD

It’s clear desperation has set in. There are no fans at the Target Center so the Wolves are begging us to come. $5 is crazy cheap (it’s really $9 total after you pay a $4 service fee), but still $9 - that’s pretty cheap. I think I am going to go on Sunday when the Timberwolves tip-off against the Denver Nuggets.

Timberwolves Attendance Low

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been averaging 14,219 fans at Target Center games this season. The under 15 number ranks 24th in NBA attendance (out of 30 teams.) It is tough to encourage Minnesota basketball fans to brave the weather elements to see a team that can’t seem to win a game (sans the Phoenix Suns fluke) in a dated arena.

The Timberwolves did sell out the home opener vs. the Denver Nuggets and they hope to sell out the February 8th Boston Celtics game, but it isn’t sold out yet and the marketing team has bundled the Boston Celtics ticket with two other games. So if you want to see Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics at the Target Center you also have to buy tickets for January 6th against Dallas Mavericks and January 23 against Phoenix Suns – all three of those games would be fun, but if you want to buy just a single ticket to the Wolves Celtics game, you have to go through brokers like Timberwolves Tickets .com. I am glad I am not responsible for selling Timberwolves tickets this year!
