David Kahn has come under fire since the NBA draft for not only taking Johnny Flynn but also Ricky Rubio, both of whom play in the backcourt and tend to expect that the ball will make it to their hands. However, there may be a method to Kahn's madness, Rubio is still in negotiations with his European team and Flynn is gearing up to play now, perhaps Kahn was expecting this drama and drafted Flynn so that he would have someone under the hoop.
In an interview this week with Jerry Sullivan, David Kahn was quoted as saying:
"Johnny has a chance to be a very special player. Despite being short [6 feet], he carries himself as if he's three or four inches taller. He has great athletic ability. I think he will become one of the best on-ball defenders in our league. I love his leadership capability. It seems to just ooze out of him."
Since the beginning of his reign as GM of the Timberwolves, Kahn has said he is building a championship team fans can only hope that Flynn will be the one to take us there, because it seems to this Timberwolves fan that Ricky Rubio is giving Minnesota the not so polite Adios!

Did I speak too soon... Disaster or Drama?
This may be one Timberwolves fan who has to eat crow. Last week I promised a disaster free draft with Kahn at the helm calling the shots, and while that may be the case it now seems that we have swapped out disaster for drama.
The Timberwolves drafted Ricky Rubio, the 18 year old hot-shot player from Spain, last week. However before the announcement was even done echoing the rumors started flying that Rubio would not be coming to play for the Timberwolves and would take another season to play in Spain. The party line is that this is due to the large buy-out that Rubio has left on his contract with Spain. The gossip mill however has run wild and the favorite reason for Rubio's potential blow-off is that he has no interest in playing for the Timberwolves and he is waiting a year so he can re-enter the draft and attempt to be drafted by a team he feels would be more suited for him. Whatever the real reason is for why Rubio may or may not be seen in Minnesota this season is really unknown.... one thing is sure, if the drama continues this may be the excitement that Timberwolves basketball needs to boost ticket sales.
In all the Rubio hype, second draft pick Johnny Flynn has been left out of the media but in some critics opinions this point-guard from Syracuse could be just as talented as Rubio and half of the drama. Some cynics are saying that the Timberwolves are just holding onto Rubio so they can trade him later for someone who would play well next to Flynn.
As all things sports, time will tell. One thing is for sure though, if the rumors and gossiping don't stop soon this season of basketball will be more like the Hills than pro-sports.

Timberwolves acquire Kevin Love and Mike Miller
Well, the Minnesota Timberwolves did not disappoint their fans by making a surprising move(s) during the NBA draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired the draft rights to 6-10 forward Kevin Love, the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, and 6-8 guard/forward Mike Miller in an eight-player trade that sent the draft rights to O.J. Mayo, the Wolves third overall draft pick, to Memphis. As part of the deal, the Wolves also acquired forward Brian Cardinal and center Jason Collins from the Grizzlies, with Memphis receiving guards Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner, and forward Antoine Walker. It was a lot to keep track of.
I just knew the Wolves wouldn’t make it as simple as choosing the third best player and sticking with him (OJ Mayo). Word on the street was that OJ Mayo didn’t want to play for the Timberwolves any way and that was part of Kevin McHales motivation for working out a trade with Memphis. I guess the strib knew what they were doing when they put together that Kevin Love piece. Check back next week for more info on our newest Minnesota Timberwolves players! Have a great Fourth of July Wolves fans!

Timberwolves Draft Day – Sure to Include Surprises
Tomorrow is D-Day for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Draft Day. The Minnesota Timberwolves have been busy working out every Tom, Derrick and Kevin. The Minnesota Timberwolves have a history of screwing up the draft so I am not making too many predictions. Most Timberwolves fans are saying USC's O.J. Mayo, Kansas State forward Michael Beasley or Memphis guard Derrick Rose. But there have been plenty of other rumors like the Timberwolves picking up Kevin Love (the trib did an article on Kevin Love vs Kevin McHale today – it made me want to puke).
I read this comment online and I just have to post it:
“Mayo, Beasley or bust. I will have a seizure if anything else happens.”
I have no doubts that tomorrow’s d-day will go down as another interesting and controversial day in Timberwovles draft history. Stay tuned, Wolves fans.

KG Makes Appearance at the Target Center
Kevin Garnett appeared for a mere minute and a half at the Target Center on Friday night as the Timberwolves hosted the Boston Celtics. KG stood and soaked in the applause from the crowd, pounding his fist over his heart several times acknowledging his Minnesota fan base. The Target Center definitely had more fans than usual for this Timberwolves season (it was standing room only – that is a definite first this year) and a lot fans were donning the green and white Garnett Celtics jersey, but I am willing to bet if we counted them all up, there were more Blue and Gray #21 Garnett Timberwolves jerseys than anything else.
After receiving the standing ovation Garnett disappeared into the locker room for the remainder of the night and did not even speak with reporters. I was having visions of a chanting crowd yelling "Kevin, Kevin, Kevin," but it never happened and the game got under way.
The Timberwolves lost to the Boston Celtics 88-86 due to a last second layup by Celtics Powe. It was the second time the Timberwolves had lost to the Celtics this season in such a close and dramatic fashion. This Timberwolves fan is glad that both NBA teams and the powers that be did the right thing by having Kevin Garnett at the game, because really what is the NBA without fans? Shouldn’t they be happy, too?

Dont Dismiss the Wolves
This Timberwolves fan is going to make a pledge to be optimistic this year (at least until after the first couple of regular season losses). Everyone in the sports world is calling this year a rebuilding year for the Minnesota Timberwolves. "They" say that without Kevin Garnett the Wolves will not be competitive in the NBA. I have to disagree. I think the team will be young, but they will also be full of drive and out to prove themselves. I think they will have an incredible amount of intrinsic motivation to do well. Wolves vice president Kevin McHale has even said, “These guys don't want it to be called rebuilding; these are young guys who are convinced they're going to go out there and win games" I agree and maybe this is Minnesota’s chance to be a Cinderella NBA team (rankings show us just a hair above the Kings in the race to the be the worst team in the 2007-08 season). These young guys can jell quickly and may do a lot better than everyone thinks they will.
The Wolves open training camp Saturday.

Timberwolves Select Corey Brewer
The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Florida's Corey Brewer in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft. Brewer, selected seventh overall, is a 6’ 9” forward from Florida. Last season, he averaged a career-best 13.2 points per game as the Gators repeated as national champions. Brewer has played three years with the Gators where he has started 106 of 108 games. "Corey is a versatile player who plays well on both ends of the basketball court," said Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale. "As a two-time champion in college and the 2007 Final Four Most Outstanding Player, he comes with a winning background and plenty of experience in big games. He's a great addition to our young core of talent."
Corey Brewer plays great defense and is already all over the Timberwolves web site. The wolves will use Brewer as the young face of great things to come and as a another tool to sell Timberwolves Tickets. Brewer will wear Minnesota Timberwolves jersey number 22 since his college #2 is retired thanks to Minnesota great Malik Sealy. Although Corey Brewer won’t make his first official Timberwolves appearance in Minnesota until Friday afternoon, the former Florida Gator forward spoke to the media in a conference call just minutes after being selected as the seventh overall pick. Brewer commented on being scooped up by the Timberwolves by saying, “I’m looking forward to playing in Minnesota but I’m not looking forward to those winters!”
Timberwolves fans hope that Corey Brewer will add spark to a Wolves team that definitely needs a jump start! Let’s go Wolves!

Expect to see Spencer Hawes
With the possibility of Kevin Garnett leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves in an offseason trade, what is going to happen to the Wolves next season if in fact a trade goes down? The Timberwolves have already acquired former Houston Rockets forward Juwan Howard in a trade for Mike James and Justin Reed, and the Wolves are about to select the seventh overall pick of this year’s NBA Draft. So who should the Wolves take? If Garnett moves, it will most likely be for big players, so should the Wolves consider taking guard in the draft? It most likely won’t happen. Many experts have predicted the Timberwolves will take 7-foot Washington center Spencer Hawes. Many consider him the best “traditional” low-post player in the draft, as he takes a lot of moves from (who else) Kevin McHale. Since McHale has a lot of input on what the franchise does, it would be no surprise to see McHale attempt to relive his playing career through drafting Hawes.

Wolves on Search for Second-Rounder
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been inviting prospects to work out in front of the team’s front office in recent weeks. The team is trying to decide who to take with their second round 41st overall pick. Some of the possible players that the Wolves could take include Wisconsin guard and former Minneapolis North star Kammron Taylor. However, it unlikely the Wolves will take another point guard in the draft after taking Randy Foye last year. The Wolves are also extensively looking at big men, which they are in dire need of. On Monday, the Wolves worked out 6’10’’ Providence forward Herbert Hill, 6’9’’ Florida center Chris Richard and 6’9’’ Creighton center Anthony Tolliver. Hill was the Big East’s Most Improved Player last year and lead the Big East in scoring at 19.9 points per game. Richard came off the bench to back up Joakim Noah and Al Horford on the National Champion Florida Gators team and Tolliver ranked First-team all-Missouri Valley Conference his senior season.

Wolves Get What They Expected
The 2007 NBA Draft lottery was exciting for about six seconds before the Minnesota Timberwolves were neither rewarded nor penalized with the seventh overall pick in the draft. The seventh pick was the Timberwolves pre-lottery position. The 18.31 percent of a chance the Wolves had to land in the top three made the lottery worth watching, but Randy Foye's facial expression when the Wolves were announced at number seven said it all: The team will have its work cut out for them in selecting a player at number seven.
Chinese seven-footer Yi Jianlian is a surprise second favorite on the Wolves website poll behind Corey Brewer from Florida. The poll asks site visitors who they would like to see in a Timberwolves uniform. Brewer got the most press from his college team's championship run, but Jianlian might be the dark horse candidate to be the next Minnesota Timberwolf. Either way, I hope they choose an exciting player that can help sell Timberwolves Tickets before all the Timberwolves basketball fans give up.

Minnesota Timberwolves Tickets
I was told by an inside source that the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to lose 1/2 of their Minnesota Season Ticket Holders next year. I am sure that would all change if the Minnesota Timberwolves were to get lucky and win one of the first two picks in the NBA Draft Lottery tonight. If that happens, I am sure that the MN Timberwolves would have an increase in season ticket sales over last year. Make sure to keep your fingers crossed tonight and GO WOLVES!

Timberwolves send Foye to the Lottery
The NBA's draft lottery is scheduled for Tuesday night in New Jersey. The Minnesota Timberwolves are sending rookie point guard Randy Foye as their good luck charm at the annual pingpong ball pop-up. The lottery will take place a mere 10-minute drive from Foye's home. Though 23 years old with only one season of service in the organization, Foye volunteered to represent the Timberwolves and although he doesn’t consider himself a lucky person, he is hoping to bring the organization some much needed luck.
The odds that the Minnesota Timberwolves will get the first or second pick are definitely slim as Minnesota will only have 53 ping pong balls in the hopper out of 1,000 balls. The Memphis Grizzlies, who finished with the league's worst regular-season record, will have 250 balls. Let’s just hope Foye can bring the Wolves more luck in Jersey than he did on the court.

You Can Count On Timberwolves
Just when I thought that I couldn't count on the Minnesota Timberwolves, they came through in the clutch. Unfortunately, I am not talking about the Timberwolves winning a big game in the NBA Playoffs but instead I am praising the Wolves for losing when they needed to lose. The Minnesota Timberwolves without Kevin Garnett have now lost seven straight games which is music to my ears. By losing to the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, the Timberwolves guaranteed themselves one of the seven worst records in the NBA which means they will retain their number one draft pick.
Who knows, maybe the Timberwolves will actually get a lucky ping pong ball roll and move up in the NBA draft. All I know is that Durant or Odom would sure look good in a MN. Timberwolves jersey. It would be a much needed miracle for an NBA franchise that is on life support.

IT'S TIME TO JUST LOSE
Anyone Minnesota Timberwolves fan who is still cheering for their favorite team just doesn't get it. If the season were to end today. the Minnesota Timberwolves would have the ninth pick in next years NBA Draft. Earth to Timberwolves fans, if their pick isn't in the top ten, they have to give the pick to the Los Angeles Clippers in the awful Cassell for Jaric trade. As much as hit hurts me, i hope that the Garnett lead Minnesota Timberwolves lose the rest of their games and move up in the draft. The worst thing that could happen to the Timberwolves franchise is to sneak into the playoffs this year and not have a first round draft pick. Let's face it, this team is going nowhere this year!

IT IS TIME TO THROW IN THE TOWEL
As a huge fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves, I have come to the realization that the Timberwolves need to keep losing and look forward to a high first round draft pick. If for some reason they stay in the playoff hunt, they will have to give up their #1 draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers have the right to the Minnesota Timberwolves first round draft pick as long as it isn't a top ten pick. They received the pick in the bone headed trade that Kevin McHale made when he sent Sam Cassell to the Clippers in exchange for Marko Jaric. It is hard to admit, but I hope the Timberwolves lose the rest of their games in order retain their first round draft pick. The only problem is that Kevin Mchale is still in charge of the organization.
