Kevin Love Outmuscled Kevin Love

The Old Wolf showed the Young Pup who still runs things in Minnesota. Yes, that's right. Kevin Garnett took it to Kevin Love with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists at the Target Center. Love had 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Boston Celtics out-muscled and outmaneuvered the Timberwolves 100-79.

Garnett improved to 6-0 against the Twolves since being traded in 2007.

One entertaining and educational season

With Michael Beasley always treating us T-Wolves fans to a lip synch concert that outperformed Ashley Simpsons on SNL from a few years back, and Kevin Love inking his name his name in the history books, not since the Timberwolves were good and had Latrell “He might choke the coach” Sprewell, Sam “The first ever basketball player from area 51” Cassel and Kevin “I am really worried he will be go into the hall of fame as a Celtic” Garnett, was a season as fun to watch as this past season. However, this season was equally entreating as it was educational.
Here are five things we learned:

1.Johnny Flynn’s future as an NBA point guard might be over, but his future as a star on the And1 Mixtape Tour is bright.
2.If we pretend Wesley Johnson is really 22 years old and not actually 25, he looks a lot better than as good as he already is.
3.Before this year we thought every trade or transaction Kevin McHale made was bad. In hindsight he had one good one when he traded OJ Mayo for Kevin Love.
4.Darko Millicic might not be a bust????
5.Kevin Love is really really good.

Here are five things that entertained us:
1.Michael Beasley and his awesome lip synching.

2.Kevin Love and his Numb#rs video. Checkout in the link below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2OkK2jupU8

3.The Timberwolves in house DJ ‘DJ Mad Mardigan’ and his horrible disk jockey skills that reached a new level of unintentional comedy. Check out below in the link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTF4LauCknc

4.David Kahn. As highlighted by what he said about Michael Beasley.
5.Kurt Rambis and his coaching. While he probably is getting fired, his facial expressions after John Flynn threw a ball out of bounds were always entertaining.

Check That: Kevin Love Named to Western Conference All-Star Team

Kevin LoveThankfully David Stern looked at Kevin Love's stats this season. The Commissioner named Kevin Love as Yao Ming's injury replacement in the All-Star game, thus making Kevin Love the first Minnesota Timberwolf since Kevin Garnett in the All-Star game. I am very happy for Kevin and it really has come full circle with the young power forward. After trading Al Jefferson, Kevin Love has emerged as one of the game's best young players. He has qualified for the All-Star game in his first season stepping out of Al Jefferson's shadows. Congratulations to Kevin Love for a much deserved recognition!

Timberwolves former star Kevin Garnett beats Jonny Flynn and the current Timberwolves

Last night the Target Center welcomed back former Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics. Despite the Boston Celtics having the upper-hand on experience, shooting, and just about everything else... the young and eager Minnesota Timberwolves roster hung in there and kept the final store to just a 2 point spread.

Jonny Flynn played 33 minutes of the game and fans all noticed, Flynn seemed to be trying to prove that he was the new Golden Boy of the Minneosta Timberwolves. Fans have noticed Jonny. Although there will always be a soft spot in Minnesota Timberwolves hearts for Kevin Garnett, it is clear that we are all depending on Jonny Flynn and the rest of the new Timberwolves roster to bring a winning season back to Minneapolis. Even though we didn't win last night it still seemed like a victory.

Kevin Garnett is coming back!

On November 21st to the Target Center with his NBA Champion team Boston Celtics. Had you going there for a second didn’t I? You thought I meant Kevin Garnett is back in a Timberwolves jersey – yeah right. Not going to happen.

Timberwolves acquire Kevin Love and Mike Miller

Well, the Minnesota Timberwolves did not disappoint their fans by making a surprising move(s) during the NBA draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired the draft rights to 6-10 forward Kevin Love, the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, and 6-8 guard/forward Mike Miller in an eight-player trade that sent the draft rights to O.J. Mayo, the Wolves third overall draft pick, to Memphis. As part of the deal, the Wolves also acquired forward Brian Cardinal and center Jason Collins from the Grizzlies, with Memphis receiving guards Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner, and forward Antoine Walker. It was a lot to keep track of.

I just knew the Wolves wouldn’t make it as simple as choosing the third best player and sticking with him (OJ Mayo). Word on the street was that OJ Mayo didn’t want to play for the Timberwolves any way and that was part of Kevin McHales motivation for working out a trade with Memphis. I guess the strib knew what they were doing when they put together that Kevin Love piece. Check back next week for more info on our newest Minnesota Timberwolves players! Have a great Fourth of July Wolves fans!

Garnett Wins Championship wearing Green, not Blue

It's impossible to ignore the fact that Kevin Garnett is one of the keys to the Boston Celtics winning the NBA championship. If K.G. was still playing for the Wolves, it is doubtful that he would have gotten this far. As a loyal Timberwolves fan, I have found it painful to stay up late nights watching the NBA Championships. I feel like I am cheating on the Wolves when I watch Kevin Garnett as a Boston Celtic. In hindsight, Kevin Garnett did what he needed to do to accomplish his life long dream that would have never came true if he were still playing in the NBA defunct state of Minnesota.

Kevin Garnett makes the NBA Playoffs, thanks to a better managed team

Watching Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics in the NBA Playoffs makes you think about the past failures of the Minnesota Timberwolves organization. Let’s face it, without Kevin Garnett, the Boston Celtics are the Minnesota Timberwolves. Dreadful. So that means that Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge built the Celtics into a powerhouse in one year. Kevin McHale had 12 years to get the job done and failed miserably. Chew on that, Wolves fans.

KG Makes Appearance at the Target Center

Kevin Garnett appeared for a mere minute and a half at the Target Center on Friday night as the Timberwolves hosted the Boston Celtics. KG stood and soaked in the applause from the crowd, pounding his fist over his heart several times acknowledging his Minnesota fan base. The Target Center definitely had more fans than usual for this Timberwolves season (it was standing room only – that is a definite first this year) and a lot fans were donning the green and white Garnett Celtics jersey, but I am willing to bet if we counted them all up, there were more Blue and Gray #21 Garnett Timberwolves jerseys than anything else.

After receiving the standing ovation Garnett disappeared into the locker room for the remainder of the night and did not even speak with reporters. I was having visions of a chanting crowd yelling "Kevin, Kevin, Kevin," but it never happened and the game got under way.

The Timberwolves lost to the Boston Celtics 88-86 due to a last second layup by Celtics Powe. It was the second time the Timberwolves had lost to the Celtics this season in such a close and dramatic fashion. This Timberwolves fan is glad that both NBA teams and the powers that be did the right thing by having Kevin Garnett at the game, because really what is the NBA without fans? Shouldn’t they be happy, too?

Kevin Garnett Diappointment?

There will be a lot of disappointed Timberwolves fans if Kevin Garnett doesn’t travel to the Target Center for Friday nights Timberwolves Celtics match-up. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Garnett will not play again until his health is "100 percent”, which might not be until after the NBA All-Star break.

Wolves fans were looking forward to the big game and many fans paid big bucks for tickets. I am sure this is putting a dent in local ticket brokers like Ticket King. Last night I picked up Timberwolves Rockets tickets from them for $20 each and the face was $50! The Ticket King rep said they were just looking to get rid of Timberwolves tickets this year and that they had taken a loss all year. I see the Ticket King guy is even in this Star Tribune article discussing the effects of KG not coming to Minnesota.

Timberwolves fans are bound to still love Kevin Garnett

With few victories to cheer about this season, Minnesota Timberwolves fans are looking elsewhere for reasons to be excited. One of those reasons could be the arrival of Kevin Garnett at the Target Center on February 8. Garnett will return to Minneapolis with his Boston Celtics in a showdown with his former team. The Wolves aren’t expected to compete with the streaking Celtics, who boast a sparkling record, but the return of Garnett will be sure to draw applause from fans who miss Garnett’s trademark baseline fading jumper, even if it will be against the Wolves rather than for them.

This year for the Timberwolves has been a tale of two franchises. With the trading of Kevin Garnett for basically half of the Boston Celtics’ roster, the two teams have gone in opposite directions. The Wolves, who with Garnett had two sub- .500 seasons before trading him in the off-season, gave up on the notion of winning once again with Garnett. Apparently, what Garnett needed was a change of scenery, because he has flourished with superstar teammates Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Putting these players together was not only a good idea on paper, because the Boston Celtics are handily defeating just about everyone in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. The Celtics have only gone straight to the top of the standings with Garnett, while the Timberwolves have only gone straight to the cellar without him.

The big Boston Celtics Timberwolves match-up at the Target Center is next week!

Timberwolves Attendance Low

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been averaging 14,219 fans at Target Center games this season. The under 15 number ranks 24th in NBA attendance (out of 30 teams.) It is tough to encourage Minnesota basketball fans to brave the weather elements to see a team that can’t seem to win a game (sans the Phoenix Suns fluke) in a dated arena.

The Timberwolves did sell out the home opener vs. the Denver Nuggets and they hope to sell out the February 8th Boston Celtics game, but it isn’t sold out yet and the marketing team has bundled the Boston Celtics ticket with two other games. So if you want to see Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics at the Target Center you also have to buy tickets for January 6th against Dallas Mavericks and January 23 against Phoenix Suns – all three of those games would be fun, but if you want to buy just a single ticket to the Wolves Celtics game, you have to go through brokers like Timberwolves Tickets .com. I am glad I am not responsible for selling Timberwolves tickets this year!

Minnesota Timberwolves Training Camp 2007

The Minnesota Timberwolves training camp is in full swing. The Wolves spent week one in Istanbul, Turkey where they practiced and then played in the first ever NBA game in Turkey. The Wolves managed to beat Efes Pilsen (Istanbul) by a score of 84-81. The Wolves then said good-bye to Turkey and hello to England, London to be exact. The Timberwolves are practicing in London’s state of the art O2 center which can seat 23,000 basketball fans and has been compared to Staples Center, home of the Los Angeles Lakers.

While in London, the Timberwolves will play Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics in an exhibition game this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2. I know I will be tuned in to see what the Wolves look like in action.

My biggest concern for the Wolves so far (besides the fact we lost our “Big Ticket” and we are rebuilding) is that there are so many injured players. The Wolves are starting to look like the Twins did a few months back. Four Wolves players are "officially" injured - Craig Smith (sprained left ankle), Rashad McCants (sore right hamstring), Mark Madsen (right shoulder surgery) and Marko Jaric (sprained left ankle) and Randy Foye has struggled with tendinitis in his knee. Come on guys, get healthy and get ready to play some tough NBA games!

What to Expect from the TWolves

It’s so hard to tell what this new Timberwolves team is going to look like in the 2007-08 NBA season. With franchise cornerstone Kevin Garnett gone, will the team have the leadership they need to win games or will they make too many rookie mistakes? With a young team, the Timberwolves should have enough energy to play hard all the way to the final buzzer, but will that be enough? Timberwolves fans should be intrigued and if the team can win a few games early, the fair weather fans might buy more Timberwolves tickets than you might think. The key games will still sell out fast especially the game vs. the Boston Celtics on February 8th at the Target Center Minneapolis. The cheap seats are going for $100 a ticket, but for the Los Angeles Clippers game the Friday before, you can get in for around $40 a ticket. I guess KG is still “The Big Ticket” in Minneapolis even if he isn’t wearing a blue jersey.

Foye Can be Top Dog

With the departure of Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves, there was some worry about the work ethic of the team being affected. But as Randy Foye begins to look, work and perform more like a leader, the Timberwolves work ethic might even improve. Foye has been working hard, really hard, on his game and physique this offseason. He has already garnered first team honors in the Las Vegas Summer League. If a player was going to screw up anywhere, it’s going to be Las Vegas, but Foye is all business. Now Foye is going to the gym twice a day and lifting weights everyday after the news that Garnett was going. If you just take a look at a recent picture of this guy, you’ll be amazed at how big his arms are. As of now, Foye wants to be the alpha Wolf, and despite his sophomore status, it looks like he has what it takes on a young squad.

How will Jefferson’s Presence Compare to Garnett’s Finesse?

The obvious key to the Kevin Garnett trade for the Minnesota Timberwolves was forward Al Jefferson, a low-post player with some rebounding punch. But how will Jefferson stack up serving as a replacement for the legendary K.G.? Well, for Timberwolves fans who don’t know, Jefferson is more of a physical forward who has the ability to play at the center position. Garnett was always more of a finesse player, or as Kevin McHale puts it candidly, “He rebounds like he’s 8 feet tall. But he plays offense like he’s 6-4.” Jefferson will certainly fill up the rebounding stat sheet the way Garnett did on paper, but his rebounds will most likely be more grind it out, box-out style hard-fought rebounds, whereas Garnett would merely scare off opposing rebounders with his sheer length. On the offensive side, Jefferson will do more around the painted area rather than taking Garnett’s favorite shot, the baseline fall-away.

So no, Al Jefferson will never replace Kevin Garnett, but he does have the chance help the Minnesota Timberwolves win some games.

The Death of Childhood; Good-bye Garnett

Well, it was bound to happen.

I was first tipped off when the Timberwolves started offering “early bird” offers on Timberwolves season ticket packages. Games were still happening at the end of last season, and the Timberwolves wanted to lure fans into season tickets before it would be announced that Kevin Garnett would leave the team.

Then the Wolves traded Mike James for Juwan Howard. The veteran forward could provide much needed leadership in the void left by the Ticket.

Then the talks commenced. The Boston Celtics, the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers were all included in the sickeningly titled “Kevin Garnett sweepstakes.”

And then they were over. Draft day went by, Kevin was still on the team, and everyone thought all was well. But then, like the remission of some awful disease, trade talks sprang up again. And this time it was a much quicker process. No wondering, no suffering. My idol was gone in the blink of an eye. My childhood, officially over.
Thank you, Kevin Garnett. You will be sorely missed, and your legend will live in the hearts of Minnesota sports fans forever.

Expect to see Spencer Hawes

With the possibility of Kevin Garnett leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves in an offseason trade, what is going to happen to the Wolves next season if in fact a trade goes down? The Timberwolves have already acquired former Houston Rockets forward Juwan Howard in a trade for Mike James and Justin Reed, and the Wolves are about to select the seventh overall pick of this year’s NBA Draft. So who should the Wolves take? If Garnett moves, it will most likely be for big players, so should the Wolves consider taking guard in the draft? It most likely won’t happen. Many experts have predicted the Timberwolves will take 7-foot Washington center Spencer Hawes. Many consider him the best “traditional” low-post player in the draft, as he takes a lot of moves from (who else) Kevin McHale. Since McHale has a lot of input on what the franchise does, it would be no surprise to see McHale attempt to relive his playing career through drafting Hawes.

Garnett Trade Speculation Still Swirling

Is it true that any press is good press? The national media coverage on the possibility of Kevin Garnett getting traded is more depressing to me than anything. The most recent speculation has the Boston Celtics sending over four garbage players and the fifth overall draft pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Please, not another trade with the Celtics. It has been confirmed that the Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves are in contact, but are not close to a deal. Even more depressing to think of is regardless if the Wolves pull the trigger on a trade involving Garnett, it is most likely going to be a long season. If Garnett stays, Timberwolves fans will once again be unsure if the club is in the rebuilding process. The Wolves will be full of young talent however. Will fans buy Timberwolves tickets to see Randy Foye, Rashad McCants and possibly Corey Brewer?

LeBron One Man Show, Why isn’t Garnett?

I think some analyst on an episode of NBA Fastbreak on ESPN said something about LeBron James being a “Batman without a Robin” because he doesn’t have a Scottie Pippen like Michael Jordan had. Nobody on the Cleveland Cavaliers team even comes close to being LeBron James’ sidekick. So does Kevin Garnett have a sidekick if he is the Minnesota Timberwolves “Batman?” I say no. So why can’t Kevin Garnett make it to the NBA Finals much less the playoffs as LeBron James has accomplished this year? Is James that much greater of a player than Garnett in that he led his team over the Detroit Pistons? I don’t know if I can compare Garnett and James, but if you polled the nation right now, I’m guessing just about everybody would say James is a more valuable player. It doesn’t help Garnett’s cause that he is mired in the powerhouse stacked Western Conference while LeBron floats free in the summer-league competition of the East. I’m not trying to call Kevin Garnett a better player than LeBron James and I’m not trying to defend him for not having success without a supporting cast because I think he does have a decent supporting cast. I just wish I could see some of the success that LeBron is having come the way of our superstar in Minnesota.
