Ricky Rubio at the Target Center

Ricky Rubio was born October 21, 1990 in Barcelona, Spain. Oo la la, Spain. From an early age, Ricky Rubio was a basketball star and at the age of 15 he became the youngest player to play in the Spanish ACB League. Ricky Rubio despite being so young has played for several Spanish Professional Teams. Ricky Rubio started playing Spanish professional basketball for DKV Joventut. While playing with Joventut, Ricky Rubio received several awards including the 2008 Mr. Europa Award.

Ricky Rubio entered the 2009 NBA Draft and was drafted as the 5th overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ricky Rubio was the first player who was born in the 1990s to be drafted into the NBA. The day after the draft, Ricky Rubio’s father announced that he would likely stay in Spain for one more season to avoid they buy-out with his DKV Joventut contract. The rest of the summer was marked with debates of would he or would he not be coming to Minnesota.

At the end of the summer of 2009, Ricky Rubio announced that he was not going to be coming to play on the Minnesota Timberwolves roster. Rubio came to play with the Timberwolves in the 2011-2012 season.

The Timberwolves experienced a new degree of success with Rubio on the court, making him a very valuable asset. In his first season on the Target Center court, Rubio suffered a season-ending injury toward the back-end of the season. Ricky Rubio Could Sign With a Spanish Team

If there is an NBA lockout that permits a season from happening, Nikola Pekovic won't be sitting around in Minnesota, he'll be playing basketball in Europe. Pekovic agreed to a contract with Partizan Belgrade, a team in Serbia, that has an out clause that allows him to go back to the United States when the lockout ends.

There have been reports that Ricky Rubio would be interested in doing a similar deal. This would make a lot of sense and give Rubio the chance to be at home a little bit longer if there is a lockout. Personally, I think he should come to the United States as soon as possible and start training with NBA trainers and stop playing European basketball. He's been playing games year round since he was 14, he doesn't need to play a few more games to be ready for the NBA. Let him work on parts of his game alone so that he can be as ready as he possibly can.

Minnesota Timberwolves out for payback against the Golden State Warriors

The Minnestoa Timberwolves had better be on their A-game tonight. After a 3 day break the Timberwolves Roster will take on the Golden State Warriors tonight. A team who by no means will see the postseason, a team by most measures should be an easy win.

HOWEVER, the Golden State Warriors beat us 146-105 in November. Giving up 74 points in the first half alone and tying the franchise records for most points allowed and biggest margin of defeat. Needless to say the November Timberwolves Warriors Game was embarrassing... REALLY embarrassing.

"We got beat so bad, I remember being so embarrassed walking into the facility the next morning," Flynn said. "It's time to go out and prove we're a way better team than that."

Tonight's tip-off is at 7:00 at the Target Center, lets hope it goes well.

But before this post goes all the way to negative town, I will say that the 4 losses the Timberwolves have suffered have all been relatively close losses. The Timberwolves held the Chicago Bulls to only a 4 point lead in Chicago. Not too bad.

With rookie, Jonny Flynn stepping up game after game to prove he deserves the hype and attention he received all summer, I'm hoping that as the season continues these point gaps will get smaller and smaller until my boys are on the other side of the score.

This week the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, the Detroit Pistons on Thursday before returning to the Target Center and their home court on Friday to take on the Toronto Raptors. It’s clear desperation has set in. There are no fans at the Target Center so the Wolves are begging us to come. $5 is crazy cheap (it’s really $9 total after you pay a $4 service fee), but still $9 - that’s pretty cheap. I think I am going to go on Sunday when the Timberwolves tip-off against the Denver Nuggets.

Timberwolves Aren’t Playing for Wittman

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be back at the Target Center on Saturday, but I am not sure anyone will want to go. It seems the dysfunctional team can’t get it together and I am still standing by the fact that it is time to get some new leadership. I read this quote in the pioneer press:

"Your main guys have to do it if you're going to be a competitive team," Wittman said. "If they're not going to do it, then you're in trouble."


Yeah, we are in trouble. The players aren’t performing the basics for coach Randy Wittman. Doesn’t Kevin McHale see that he is losing (if not already lost) the Minnesota Timberwolves fan base? The biggest news in Timberwolves land is that the team won Monday afternoon. On the road. Truly, this is a rare occurrence this season. The Minnesota Timberwolves earned only their second road victory this season in a matchup with the Golden State Warriors. It was hard fought, well-deserved and a long time in the coming. The Wolves beat the Warriors 109-108.

Ryan Gomes stepped into a leadership role that could bode greater activity from the gifted young scorer. He scored 35 points on 11-15 shooting from the field and 11-12 shooting from the line. I think Gomes has to keep shooting while not worrying if he is off the mark for stretches at a time. He has more of a scorer’s body than Rashad McCants, and I would rather see Gomes shooting than McCants. Al Jefferson also contributed big down the stretch, scoring 15 of his 21 points in the second half. The Timberwolves host the Phoenix Suns at the Target Center tonight and go for that elusive winning streak yet again. Cheap Timberwolves tickets are everywhere. Still no timetable for Foye

Randy Foye feels like he is getting back to being in the lineup, but he isn’t quite there yet. If Foye wants to return this season, he has to make sure everything is 100 percent with his knee, because a setback would only prolong the recovery time. With the only reason to play this season being to avoid having the worst 82-game record of all time, rushing Randy Foye back wouldn’t be a wise decision.

The Timberwolves actually had the lead going into the second half, but simply couldn’t hang with the Spurs. At least it wasn’t a fourth quarter downfall; this time the Wolves got outplayed in the third, easing the pain of defeat. The Timberwolves will finish 2007 with a 5 game road trip. Timberwolves lose again

The Minnesota Timberwolves lost their sixth game in a row last night to the Golden State Warriors 87-91 at the Target Center Minneapolis. I think Warrior Al Harrington pegged the Wolves right when he said,

"When you're a young team, you come out with a lot of energy and start making shots, but when a veteran team decides to shut you down on defense, you lose your confidence…”

The Timberwolves have been looking great in the first half and then completely fall apart in the second half, particularly the fourth quarter. I wish I was better at stats because I would love to run the win loss scenario for the Timberwolves season thus far if you counted the halftime score as the final score. I bet the Wolves are better than .500 or at least better than “the worst team in the league.” Next up for the Wolves is another Target Center home game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.
