Timberwolves are Undefeated

A text exchange occurred between my Timberwolves buddy and myself this morning, it went like this:

ME: The Timberwolves are undefeated this year.
HIM: April Fools, fool.
ME: No, really they are.
HIM: Whatever.
ME: The Timberwolves have NOT lost a game in 2009, record: 3-0
HIM: Dork.
HIM: But you are right. I can’t believe they have a winning streak.
ME: Let’s hope they win tonight at home. Fans need a win.
HIM: Fans may need more than ONE win.
ME: That would be FOUR in a row.
HIM: That would be cool. GTG.

If took me a few minutes to realize that GTG was “got to go” and not some special code for a Gomes Telfair Gomes pass shoot sequence. Anyway, I was checking out Timberwolves Ticket prices and I see you can get half price tickets to tonight’s game. They have center court seats listed at $69 each and I know the face value of those is $125 each. I wish I could rearrange my night and go, but I will probably watch at home. The Wolves are on FSN tonight. GO WOLVES!

Timberwolves Beat the Jazz

Well, I was wrong about my Timberwolves Jazz score. I should have checked the roster report before I shoot off my mouth because the Jazz were without starters Andrei Kirilenko (injured) and Mehmet Okur (ill). It was the second time in five weeks that the Timberwovles beat the Jazz, I just couldn’t believe that they would be able to do that this season. I am glad the Wolves proved me wrong and they have been proving my Timberwolves quarter joke wrong the last few weeks as well.

The stat is this:
The Wolves lost eight of the first 13 times they led going into the fourth quarter this season. They now have won the past four games in which they led after three quarters and are 10-4 in that category since winning at Golden State on January 21st.

Way to improve Wolves! Let’s hope the end of the season chemistry we are seeing on the Timberwolves team can carry over to next year.

Timberwolves lose again and again

The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost three of their last four games, 2 of those losses on their home court. The young Timberwolves team just can’t seem to put it all together for four periods of play. They play strong one or two periods, but never all four. Don’t get me wrong, the Timberwolves team has potential…they only lost to the San Antonio Spurs by one point and kept the Target Center crowd glued to their seats to the final buzzer, but they just can’t seem to get the breaks they need to win the games.

I can feel any remaining interest in the NBA slowly draining out of the Twin Cities.

Randy Foye returns

Randy Foye is back on the floor, a good sign for Minnesota Timberwolves fans. After missing the first 43 games of the regular season, Foye saw action against the Chicago Bulls Tuesday night. He came in with 4:13 left in the first quarter and finally scored his first points of the season with 11:26 left in the second. His final line for the night included 11 points, two assists, one rebound and a steal in 17 minutes.

Randy Wittman gave the clichéd “rusty” quote, but he also said he played under control, which is a good thing. I don’t want to see additional damage to Randy Foye’s knee, because he has to come back healthy for next season. Randy Foye is back on the court Timberwolves fans, which means Al Jefferson might have an outside threat to compliment his inside presence.

Timberwolves stats through 30 games

Despite a record that looks colder than the most chilling of Minneapolis winter days, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been modestly filling out the stat sheet this season. Al Jefferson has had some truly glistening box score lines, including the December 8 win against the Phoenix Suns when Jefferson dropped 32 points, 20 rebounds and 4 steals. Jefferson also notched a twenty-twenty night on December 17 at the Miami Heat (22 points and 20 boards).

No other players on the Minnesota Timberwolves roster are averaging more than 15 points a game, but Rashad McCants is close with 14 a game. Craig Smith is third in scoring on the team with 11.1. points per game. Smith is also shooting an excellent .552 from the field, good for best on the club. Three other Timberwolves average double figures in scoring – Antoine Walker at 10.3 points per game along with Ryan Gomes and Sebastian Telfair with 10 a game. Theo Ratliff has only played in six games, but those six displayed his defensive ability, as he averaged 2.83 blocks a game. Hopefully the Timberwolves can get him back soon from injury to receive more of that kind of contribution.
