My Favorite Timberwolf Player: Kevin Love

Everyone loves Kevin Love. Not even trying to make a joke there, Twolves fans. Here's the low down on Kevin Love:

Team Number: 42
Birth Date: 09/07/1988
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 260lbs.
Position: Center and Forward

Kevin Love
Kevin Love is a forward and center for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kevin Love was born on September 7, 1988 in Santa Monica, California and grew up in Oregon. During his time on the Lake Oswego High School basketball team, Kevin Love was ranked as one of the nation's top basketball players. By the end of his high school basketball career, Kevin Love had established the new record as the Oregon boys' basketball all-time leading scorer with 2,628 points. Wow!

Kevin Love chose to play at UCLA for college. He was recognized as a Pac-10 Player of the Year and an All-American first team member. He then decided to leave UCLA and enter the NBA draft in 2008. He was a first-round 5th overall pick for the Memphis Grizzlies and quickly part of an 8-person trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In 2010, Love was named to the 2010 NBA All-Star Team, the first Minnesota player since Kevin Garnett. Love is seen as one of the rejuvenating forces for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and we love that. Okay sorry, but how can you not say stuff like that when talking about the great Kevin Love.

Last Home Game of the Season

Michael BeasleyThe Minnesota Timberwolves are playing the Phoenix Suns tonight in Phoenix, Arizona. It is their last road game of the season. The final game of the season comes on Wednesday, April 13th against the Houston Rockets at the Target Center. It was another rough season for Minnesota Timberwolves fans, as the season draws to a close. With that being said, I at least applaud the players for grinding out the season and closing out the year. Hopefully we can finally secure a Top Pick in the 2011 NBA Draft (first or second for a change) and change our fortune around. Use Ticket King for any Minnesota Timberwolves tickets!

Minnesota Timberwolves Deflated by Sacramento Kings

Kurt RambisThe Sacramento Kings defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 127-95 at the Target Center on Sunday night. The Kings have a record of 17-51, while the Timberwolves have a record of 17-54. It has been a frustrating season and this score adds to the high level of disappointment. On Friday night, the Timberwolves were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers 106-98, although leading most of the game. Wesley Johnson scored a career high 29 points in the game. Against the Kings, Luke Ridnour scored 22 points for a team high. The Timberwolves now own the 2nd worst record in the NBA (wins wise), as they are tied with the Kings and the Wizards at 17. The Cleveland Cavaliers have 13 wins.

Utah Jazz vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Preview

Al JeffersonThe Minnesota Timberwolves will host the Utah Jazz on Friday, March 11th at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Utah Jazz are 34-31 on the season and of course have former Minnesota Timberwolf, Al Jefferson. The Utah Jazz no longer have Deron Williams, as he was traded to the New Jersey Nets at the trade deadline. The Utah Jazz will have to rely on a nucleus of Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and Paul Mislap. The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off of a 101-75 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night, as well as a 52 game double-double streak by Kevin Love. Minnesota Timberwolves Host Dallas Mavericks on Monday, March 7th

Dirk NowitzkiThe Dallas Mavericks are visiting the Target Center on Monday, March 7th to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Dallas Mavericks are currently 45-17 and 2nd in the Western Conference. Dirk Nowitzki continues to lead the way for the Mavericks. The Dallas Mavericks keep on doing their best Charlie Sheen reference, and that's "winning." Mark Cuban has built together a solid team that has competed in 9 straight playoff appearances. The Minnesota Timberwolves will need to bring their "A" Game. Purchase your Minnesota Timberwolves tickets with Ticket King!

Minnesota Timberwolves Win In a Shootout, 126-123 over Golden State Warriors

Michael Beasley and Kevin Love249 points. That's how many points were scored at the Target Center on Sunday afternoon in regulation. The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Golden State Warriors 126-123 in one of the best games to watch all season. Kevin Love, like usual, led the way with 37 points and 23 rebounds. It was his 46th double-double in a row. Think about that again. 46 double-doubles in a row. Unreal. Furthermore, he only took 13 shots to achieve his 37 points. He went 18 of 23 from the free throw line, having a career night from the line. Michael Beasley chipped in 25 points and Wes Johnson had a fantastic game, adding 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Welcome Back Al Jefferson

Al JeffersonThe Minnesota Timberwolves welcome back Al Jefferson tonight at the Target Center. The Utah Jazz are currently 20-9 and have been playing very good basketball. Al Jefferson played for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2007 to 2010 and was the best player on the squad every season. He was traded last season for 2 first round picks and center Kosta Koufos. It will be a homecoming for the former Timberwolf and I'm sure he will be ready to go and excited to see some of his old teammates. Hopefully the Minnesota Timberwolves will respond.

Minnesota Timberwolves 129, Cleveland Cavaliers 95

Jonny Flynn, Kevin Love, Wayne EllingtonHoly moly. The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 129 to 95 on Saturday night at the Target Center. The 34 point blowout WITHOUT Michael Beasley was as surprising as it gets for Minnesota Timberwolves fans. The team made a record 18 3 pointers! Kevin Love had 28 points and 19 rebounds. Rookie Wes Johnson had 20 points for a career high. Darko Milicic had 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Wayne Ellington chipped in 16 points for Minnesota. The Timberwolves shot 59% from the field. It was the 6th largest win in franchise history. Love is averaging 23.7 points per game and 18.8 rebounds per game in his last six games and has grabbed at least 15 rebounds in six straight games.

In Paris: Minnesota Timberwolves 106, New York Knicks 100

Paris, FranceThe Minnesota Timberwolves traveled to Paris, France and took on the New York Knicks in an exhibition game. The Timberwolves won by a score of 106-100. We started off sloppy, falling behind early in the game but came roaring back. The turnovers need to be corrected if we want to win more games this season. Kevin Love looked great, finishing with 17 points in 14 rebounds despite barely playing in the 4th quarter. Martell Webster had 17 points and Michael Beasley had 13. The T'wolves have landed at home now and will the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday at the Target Center. Get Timberwolves tickets at Ticket King!

Wolves Lose Close Game

The Wolves suffered their first loss of the year (2009) last night vs. Miami Heat at the Target Center. It was a close game so I am not as upset as I have been at the other losses this season. The Heat just came on stronger in the final minute of the game edging out the Timberwolves 96-99. I noticed the poor performance, but I didn’t realize this stat that went along with it:

“Minnesota missed its last four shots and committed two turnovers in the final 1:26”

Oops. Sounds like the Wolves are up to their old tricks of not being able to finish out strong. I bet McHale will have a plan for that. Randy Foye played well as did Rodney Carney off the Timberwolves bench.

The Timberwolves now spend some time on the road – 3 games to be exact and 10 days until they are back on the Target Center floor. I hope they can keep up their tough playing ways and win a road game (or two).

Target Center Tickets for Timberwolves Games

I read online that “approximately 13,000 tickets have been sold for the Timberwolves' game tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers and their NBA MVP contender, LeBron James.”

I am not sure exactly why that was newsworthy except for the fact that the ticket number is low and one can conclude that NBA support in the Twin Cities is falling at a rapid pace. Total attendance at the last Timberwolves Target Center game was: 15,336.

For the Timberwolves Boston Celtics game this year just over 19,000 Target Center tickets were punched. That is still only 80% capacity for probably the biggest game of the year.

Target Center Capacity for Basketball is 23,500. Anyone think they will even come close to selling out a game this year? By close, I mean 90% or higher. If you go to a game, leave me a comment about your thoughts on crowd size!

Timberwolves Win…Finally

There is a Timberwolves win to blog about (finally). It has been three weeks since the Timberwolves basketball team was able to put a notch in the win column, but it has felt like forever. Last night at the Target Center, the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Philadelphia 76ers 102-96

"They were desperate,'' 76ers sixth man Willie Green said. "They had a sense of urgency all game long. They wanted it more than us. It was obvious.''

This Timberwolves fan was desperate two weeks ago, I guess our team is a little behind the fan base. Vikings player Chad Greenway sat Target Center courtside to cheer on friend and fellow South Dakotan Mike Miller. Perhaps Greenway needs to make it to more games, he was the lucky charm. I wish he could be at the Target Center Friday night when the Timberwolves play the Boston Celtics. It's going to be a tough game to watch.

Timberwolves at Target Center

The Minnesota Timberwolves will make their Target Center pre-season debut tomorrow night so I thought now was as good a time as any to start this Timberwolves blog back up.

So far the Wolves have been strong in the pre-season, winning 5 out of 6 games. Tomorrow night at the Target Center should be an exciting night for Timberwolves fans as the Wolves take on the Chicago Bulls. It will be the first chance us Minnesotans have had to see the new team live on the hardwood. I am betting the crowd will go nuts for Mike Miller and Kevin Love. I am betting that Randy Foye will draw his fair share of fans as well and don’t forget about the big man Al Jefferson. It will be nice to see those guys back on the Target Center court. I am looking forward to an improved Minnesota Timberwolves season.

Timberwolves lose again and again

The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost three of their last four games, 2 of those losses on their home court. The young Timberwolves team just can’t seem to put it all together for four periods of play. They play strong one or two periods, but never all four. Don’t get me wrong, the Timberwolves team has potential…they only lost to the San Antonio Spurs by one point and kept the Target Center crowd glued to their seats to the final buzzer, but they just can’t seem to get the breaks they need to win the games.

I can feel any remaining interest in the NBA slowly draining out of the Twin Cities.

KG Makes Appearance at the Target Center

Kevin Garnett appeared for a mere minute and a half at the Target Center on Friday night as the Timberwolves hosted the Boston Celtics. KG stood and soaked in the applause from the crowd, pounding his fist over his heart several times acknowledging his Minnesota fan base. The Target Center definitely had more fans than usual for this Timberwolves season (it was standing room only – that is a definite first this year) and a lot fans were donning the green and white Garnett Celtics jersey, but I am willing to bet if we counted them all up, there were more Blue and Gray #21 Garnett Timberwolves jerseys than anything else.

After receiving the standing ovation Garnett disappeared into the locker room for the remainder of the night and did not even speak with reporters. I was having visions of a chanting crowd yelling "Kevin, Kevin, Kevin," but it never happened and the game got under way.

The Timberwolves lost to the Boston Celtics 88-86 due to a last second layup by Celtics Powe. It was the second time the Timberwolves had lost to the Celtics this season in such a close and dramatic fashion. This Timberwolves fan is glad that both NBA teams and the powers that be did the right thing by having Kevin Garnett at the game, because really what is the NBA without fans? Shouldn’t they be happy, too?

Timberwolves fans are bound to still love Kevin Garnett

With few victories to cheer about this season, Minnesota Timberwolves fans are looking elsewhere for reasons to be excited. One of those reasons could be the arrival of Kevin Garnett at the Target Center on February 8. Garnett will return to Minneapolis with his Boston Celtics in a showdown with his former team. The Wolves aren’t expected to compete with the streaking Celtics, who boast a sparkling record, but the return of Garnett will be sure to draw applause from fans who miss Garnett’s trademark baseline fading jumper, even if it will be against the Wolves rather than for them.

This year for the Timberwolves has been a tale of two franchises. With the trading of Kevin Garnett for basically half of the Boston Celtics’ roster, the two teams have gone in opposite directions. The Wolves, who with Garnett had two sub- .500 seasons before trading him in the off-season, gave up on the notion of winning once again with Garnett. Apparently, what Garnett needed was a change of scenery, because he has flourished with superstar teammates Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Putting these players together was not only a good idea on paper, because the Boston Celtics are handily defeating just about everyone in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. The Celtics have only gone straight to the top of the standings with Garnett, while the Timberwolves have only gone straight to the cellar without him.

The big Boston Celtics Timberwolves match-up at the Target Center is next week!

Timberwolves beat Miami Heat

I was disappointed that Shaquille O'Neal wasn’t at the Target Center with his Miami Heat team, but I am also thankful since the Timberwolves managed to pull off their fifth win of the season beating the Heat 101-91. The Wolves tried to lose it in the fourth quarter (remember my quarter joke? It keeps resonating over and over), but managed a win. I hope there is a few more wins in the Timberwolves season, I am not greedy, just a few.

Road Trip is over, Wolves prep for Portland

Another disastrous road trip is over for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now they come back home to the Target Center after the New Years and play the red-hot Portland Trail Blazers. The game should give Timberwolves fans another good look at what the Wolves could have had if they had kept Brandon Roy instead of trading him for Randy Foye. Foye might not even play a game this season, while Roy has done everything to help his team win during the Blazers improbable 13-game winning streak that ended on New Years Eve when the Blazers fell to the Utah Jazz. Perhaps the Wolves can play some good basketball at home and hand the Blazers something that hasn’t happened in a while for them – a losing streak.

Timberwolves beat Pacers

Perhaps this Timberwolves blogger should post more demeaning jokes regarding the Minnesota Timberwolves because apparently they enjoy the challenge. The Timberwolves actually played well in the fourth quarter of the Indiana Pacers game on Friday night beating the Pacers 131-118 at the Target Center. Antoine Walker, Craig Smith and Gerald Green came off the bench for a combined 47 points and Al Jefferson put up 29 of his own along with 27 from Sebastian Telfair. It was a great performance by all and the Timberwolves victory was a much needed lift. Let’s hope the Timberwolves can play a few more games like that at the Target Center this year and if they can, I would like to buy a ticket for the show! Go Wolves!
