Timberwolves Win, Timberwolves Blog Needs Help

This Timberwolves blog is kind of boring. I know most bloggers would have been blogging all night long regarding the Timberwolves season opening win over the Sacramento Kings last night. Don’t get me wrong, I am pumped that my team won and even more excited to see Kevin Love out on the Target Center hardwood doing exactly what I had hoped he would do. BTW, the Timberwolves won 98-96 even though they led by eight points several times throughout the night.

But, I want my Timberwolves blog to be something a little bit different. One of my blogging friends writes a Vikings Football Blog and I see she is starting a new Looking Back, Looking Ahead format – I like that, but I don’t want to copy her. I want my own format. Hmmmm… let me think about it. The new season is just getting started so now would be the perfect time to revamp this Timberwolves blog and make it a quick stop for Twolves fans on the Internet. Any suggestions are always welcome.

Timberwolves Games broadcast on KFAN

Last week, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced that KFAN (1130 on your AM dial) will broadcast all of the Timberwolves' 82 regular season games and any playoff games (as if!) and three preseason games (listener count:2).

KFAN broadcast the first 17 Timberwolves seasons so this isn’t anything new for the Twin Cities sports oriented station. Does this mean that the radio personalities at KFAN will have to STOP bashing the Timberwolves? That may be hard to do. I remember listening to one broadcast on my drive to work one morning and on of the guys said, “who even cares about the Timberwolves any more?” A round of, “not me’s” replied and they read the score of the game and moved onto other NBA news and games.

I have to say I wasn’t shocked. I am sure the Minnesota Timberwolves broadcasts won’t be their top ratings. Perhaps we should take bets on the KFAN listener count during the Wolves games…10, maybe 15? If they can’t sell tickets to the Target Center, I doubt people are wasting time listening on the radio, but it does make sense that Minnsota’s NBA team would be on Minnesota’s sports radio station. Any thoughts, Wolves fans?

Timberwolves losing fan support even with wins?

I know that things are rough at the Target Center when I am getting emails from the Timberwolves ticket people offering half price Timberwolves tickets. I am shocked to read that $100 Twolves tickets are now only $50. Does this prove that the economy is bad? Or more likely the Timberwolves are bad, but really the Wolves have been doing better, so maybe the true reason for half price Timberwolves tickets is public perception of the Timberwolves is really bad.

The Wolves have won a few home games lately, but they have been against the other bottom feeder NBA teams so the wins don’t provide enough interest for Minnesota fans or earn their loyal support.

The Timberwolves next home game is Sunday March 30th vs the Utah Jazz. I am guessing the Wolves will lose by 10, but there isn’t much else going on in the Twin Cities so fans might as well take in the NBA game.

Timberwolves lose again and again

The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost three of their last four games, 2 of those losses on their home court. The young Timberwolves team just can’t seem to put it all together for four periods of play. They play strong one or two periods, but never all four. Don’t get me wrong, the Timberwolves team has potential…they only lost to the San Antonio Spurs by one point and kept the Target Center crowd glued to their seats to the final buzzer, but they just can’t seem to get the breaks they need to win the games.

I can feel any remaining interest in the NBA slowly draining out of the Twin Cities.

Timberwolves beat Philadelphia 76ers

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated Philadelphia 76ers 104-88 last night to snap a five-game losing streak. That puts the Wolves record at 11-41, the worst record in the West, but the win was a definite morale booster for the team. Al Jefferson played hard and ended the night with 19 points and 14 rebounds against the 76ers and Randy Foye, who missed the first three months of the season with a knee injury, made his first start and finished with 13 points and 5 assists.

Timberwolves head coach Randy Wittman paired Foye and Sebastian Telfair in the backcourt, and said he's not sure how long he'll go with that experiment.

"They'll determine that for me,'' Wittman said. "When you put new combos together, they'll tell me how it's working by how they play.''

This Timberwolves fan enjoyed the combination and was just plain excited to see Randy Foye back on the court and looking healthy – let’s hope the rest of the season is as successful as this game was!
