Rick Adelman Wants Timberwolves Head Coaching Position?

I'm still trying to figure out why Rick Adelman flew in from Portland to interview with the Timberwolves. He really shouldn't be interested in this job, but it seems like he is. At least he might be interested at the money the Wolves would throw at him. For a rebuilding job like this, I'm assuming the Timberwolves would have to offer him somewhere around 5 million dollars a year. Probably more than that. I just can't see him wanting this job. The roster doesn't fit at all and management has a history of treating coaches poorly after the whole Kurt Rambis fiasco. Only time will tell, but I really hope the Timberwolves are able to get Rick Adelman to coach this team. Plus he totally looks like Count Dooku from Star Wars.

Minnesota Timberwolves Reputation

So the Timberwolves just got done with their firing of head coach Kurt Rambis. This honestly was one of the most ridiculous processes I have ever witnessed from a pro sports franchise. Never before in my life has it taken a full three weeks for a team to hire a coach after an ESPN report has been leaked. Not only did the firing get leaked and was full blown news, but there were also reports that Kahn was already asking other coaches to come interview for the job, while Rambis was still technically hired. Here comes the knee slapper, he asks Rambis to join the front office in a pity attempt to clear up his image. So the reason you want to fire this guy is because he doesn't share the same basketball ideologies as you, but then you want to pick his brain for personal decisions? Clearly a public relations move.

Luckily for Kahn, he has a large vocabulary and makes some sense when he talks. He uses twisted - delusional logic to justify each of his actions. For example, he said that the reason he took so long to fire Rambis is that he wanted to make absolutely sure that he was making the right decision. How long does it take to make the absolute right decision? Why didn't you fire him before the draft so you knew what kind of team to build? I think it's because he wanted to draft this team all by himself without Rambis. He didn't even let Rambis be apart of the draft process, which is a messed up situation. If you don't want him apart of that, how can you expect him to coach the team, just fire him already.

For the Timberwolves, all this is a huge blow for the franchise. What Kahn needs to understand is that even if he thought he needed that much time to make that decsision, which he didn't, (who needs three months to decide whether to fire someone or not?) it's his reputation that matters too. Everyone in the league thinks he's an idiot whose running the team into the ground so no one will want to work for him. For example, when he wants to find a new coach, he probably will have a hard time doing so after what he did to Rambis. Also, free agents. Whose going to want to sign with a team run by this guy? Not me and not anyone.

Kurt Rambis has Been Fired!

I feel like I wrote this a long time ago, but Kurt Rambis was officially fired by the Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday following a David Kahn press conference. Everyone and their mother saw this one coming. There was an ESPN report right before the NBA draft that the Wolves had decided to fire Rambis. Then there were rumors of David Kahn reaching out to other coaches even though he hadn't fired Rambis yet. Okay, so this was all done in the most unprofessional manner possible, but let's explore the Timberwolves options.

Let's discuss the parameters of someone who ends up coaching the Wolves. This person has to know how to teach defense and teach it well. The Wolves were ranked near the bottom in all defensive categories last season. Ideally, this coach would also be young so that they could grow with the team. The problem here is that Kahn never mentions defense and only wants to play up tempo and push the ball so you can scratch what I said above. Kahn wants someone he can control. He couldn't control Rambis, who believed that winning basketball teams don't play up tempo, so he fired him.

David Kahn, can you name a past NBA champion that played up tempo? neither can I. Sure, Phoenix got close, but they had Steve Nash running the show and I don't see a Steve Nash on this team, Ricky Rubio needs to average more than 3 points for me to even consider him.

Hopefully Kahn hires someone who is just a flat out stud of a coach, but this isn't likely. There's a big problem here, who on earth wants to work with David Kahn. All the high profile coaches just witnessed what he did to Kurt Rambis and how he left him in limbo for weeks only to embarrass him and then fire him. That's why I would cross out names such as Rick Adelman and Jeff Van Gundy.

That leaves us with Kahn either finding a desperate coach who will do whatever he says or a young coach who will do whatever he says. Either way, I don't see this working out for the Wolves because Kahn's philosophies are pretty flawed.

There was an ESPN report that Don Nelson, the NBA's all time winning coach is intrigued by the Wolves roster. This would be a great hire as he has a history of being a very good up tempo coach. The only problem is that he is 71. Still, it would be a better hire than any other hire Kahn would likely make. Adelman would be the best hire, but I can't see him wanting to coach this team.

Rough Start for Minnesota Timberwolves

Kurt RambisThe Minnesota Timberwolves are now 1-6 on the season and are off to a start many Minnesota Timberwolves fans hoped not to see. After going 6-2 in the preseason, optimism was riding high. However, after a difficult early schedule, the Minnesota Timberwolves are 1-6 and reeling. They will play at the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday and at the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. Hopefully the Minnesota Timberwolves can get some momentum in these 2 games. Get your Minnesota Timberwolves tickets at Ticket King!

Minnesota Timberwolves Open Up Training Camp

Kurt RambisThe Minnesota Timberwolves will begin training camp in Mankato on Saturday morning. The team will be without Jonny Flynn who is nursing a hip injury and recovering from surgery. The Minnesota Timberwolves will open up the season with 9 new players to their roster. Kurt Rambis claims he is excited about the new roster as it gives him more "athleticism, versatile, and length." I hope Rambis can channel the new talent and athleticism into wins this season. More news and notes to follow.

Timberwolves Ricky Rubio Watch Update

Ricky Rubio looking more like a Jonas Brother than a NBA starHere’s the skinny on “Rubio Watch 2010”:

Kurt Rambis visited Europe on a scouting trip, met Ricky Rubio for the first time, kissed his butt, Rubio liked it.

Ricky Rubio describes himself as “... a colorful, attractive, spectacular basketball player."

Say what?!?! I think colorful and attractive are interesting word choices. I would rather see determined, athletic, tenacious, intense, strong, forceful etc. Rubio sounds like he is describing a Harlem Globetrotter more than a NBA star...and actually at this point I would welcome a Globetrotter with open arms onto the Timberwolves team.

*Doesn't Ricky Rubio look like a Jonas Brother in this picture? or at the very least the next Disney Channel tween hearthrob*

Minnesota Timberwolves in the process of a huge rebuilding project as the 2010 NBA draft draws near

NBA Draft Lottery Pick
The 2010 NBA draft is just over a month away and the Minnesota Timberwolves are clearly preparing for some big Timberwolves Roster changes. David Khan has made it clear that he wants to bring in the talent that the team is lacking.

"We don't have THE block," Kahn said. "That one block where you can build everything else around."

Coach Kurt Rambis seemed to agree, because he arranged the roster in order to make financial room for some big players. Most experts say that the Minnesota Timberwolves have no shot of signing a player from free agency... Free agents are looking for teams they can win with. The Timberwolves aren't in the running for a player like LeBron or Chris Bosh. Instead the Timberwolves are going to have to find their lead Wolf from the NBA Draft.

With 3 first round picks, the Minnesota Timberwolves are positioned to make some strong moves in June. Favorites overall for guards include John Wall from Kentucky and Evan Turner from Ohio State.

One Game left on the Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule

It has been a very hard season to be a Minnesota Timberwolves fan... with loss after loss the Minnesota Timberwolves roster has to be ready to give up the game. Tonight the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Detroit Pistons for the last game of the 2009-2010 Timberwolves Season.

Even if the Twolves walk away with a victory, which I think is highly unlikely, they will still be ranked last in the NBA and their season will be over. In many ways this is a blessing, the entire franchise needs to lay low for a week or so and then pull it together and start making some tough choices about next season. I am of the opinion that a coach should be given more than one season to prove himself, Kurt Rambis walked into a tough situation.

Despite talent like Jonny Flynn and Al Jefferson on the Timberwolves Roster, Coach Kurt Rambis had to basically start building a franchise... so to that light, I would rather see Rambis take a hard look at his game strategy and tailor that around his players than have the the Timberwolves find a new coach. Kurt Rambis has the potential to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves well, he just needs some time to do it.

Tonight's Minnesota Timberwolves game against the Detroit Pistons is at the Target Center and tips off at 7:00.

Minnesota Timberwolves Ryan Hollins was ejected from Monday night's Minnesota Timberwolves Game

The Timberwolves are a basketball team... Though you wouldn't know it from the Minnesota Timberwolves game Monday night. Ryan Hollins the stand-out forward as of late on the Minnesota Timbewolves roster was ejected from a game after 2 scuffles with Dallas Mavericks players.

The first accident happened when Hollins accidentally put an elbow into DeShawn Stevenson's head during a rebound in the first quarter. Stevenson reacted poorly and was given a technical foul, Hollins walked away from that issue without a foul or reprimand.

Then Hollins got into with to Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki rebounded on the defensive end, and Hollins threw his left forearm at Nowitzki's head, hitting the Mavericks player fairly hard. Officials reviewed the play and assessed a Flagrant 2 foul, which caused Hollins to be ejected from the game.

Minnesota Timberwolves Coach Kurt Rambis told reporters later, "I don't like some of his decision-making, but I like his aggressiveness. When guys play hard, there's a lot of physical contact, tempers are going to flare."

Big Break in the Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule hopefully gave them time to recover...

Jonny Flynn with the ball
The Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule has been very quiet this past week. The Timberwolves Roster has had a break since last Wednesday when the Minnesota Timberwovles lost to the Charlotte Bobcats 92-93 at the Target Center. Hopefully, the Timberwolves Roster has used this break to rest and work on the triangle offense that Kurt Rambis is still insisting is the best plan for the Twolves.

Over the weekend Minnesota Timberwolves players Jonny Flynn and Kevin Love did spend some of the break at the Rookie-Sophomore Game. Flynn and the rookies won the game with 7 assists coming from Jonny Flynn.

Tomorrow the Minnesota Timberwolves play on the road against the Detroit Pistons before heading to Washington to play the Wizards on Wednesday.

Minnesota Timberwolves end winning streak after 4 games in a row

No, I did not have a typo in my title. The Minnesota Timberwolves were on a 4 game winning streak... that is until last night. Lets start with the good stuff. The Minnesota Timberwolves played two back-to-backs last week, all 4 games were wins, the Timberwolves seemed to be playing well together, they were finding their groove...

Then we got to last night. The Minnesota Timberwolves played last night in Philadelphia against the 76ers, note that I am using the term "played" very loosely... they were there, they were on the court, they held the ball every now and again. But with a 22 point spread at halftime that carried through to the end, it was pretty clear that the Minnesota Timberwolves Roster never really got off the plane. Kurt Rambis told reporters he was "disappointed". No $#*! you were disappointed, you should have let the cheerleaders play.

The Timberwolves have a chance to redeem themselves tonight with a win against the Charlotte Bobcats at the Target Center. Lets hope they remember they are there to play.

The Minnesota Timberwolves Have A Rough Road Trip

Minnesota Timberwolves fighting to hold on against the the Memphis Grizzlies Last week the Minnesota Timberwolves spent a rough week on the road. With 3 games in 3 cities in 5 days, the Minnesota Timberwolves roster was ragged and tired. Kurt Rambis, Minnesota Timberwolves Head Coach seemed to having nothing but growing frustration for his team...
On Monday (Jan 11th) the Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Denver Nuggets. Clearly the thin air in the mile-high city got to the Twolves roster because none of them played like they wanted to be there. With a final score of 105-94 Nuggets, the Minnesota Timberwolves accepted defeat and moved on

Wednesday (Jan 13th) the Timberwolves and rookie Jonny Flynn traveled to Houston to play the Rockets. The Timberwolves Rockets game had only a six point spread with a Rockets 120-114 victory.

Friday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies was probably the worst of the road-trip. A defeated, sluggish and basically non-present Timberwolves went to Memphis to let the Grizzlies trample them 135-110, though the score was honestly closer than the game really ever looked. The Grizzlies Timberwolves game made it seem like the Timberwolves roster never really got off of the plane...

With a home series next week, Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Kurt Rambis is hopeful that at week at home will do his players right.

Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule Update

It has been a while since I have recaped how the Minnesota Timberwolves Schedule is going... perhaps it was because the holidays had me in a great mood and I didn't want to ruin my great mood by having to write about losing, or it might be because I went on a Jonny Flynn Twitter rant... whatever the reason, I have been slacking on Minnesota Timberwolves Game Recaps and it feels hypocritical to fault the Timberwolves Roster for a lack of energy when I am guilty of lazy blogging... so here is a down and dirty Minnesota Timbewolves Review:

Dec 26th: Timberwolves play the Wizzards at the Target Center and win 101-89. A fourth quarter shooting streak helps the Minnesota Timberwolves win at home.

Dec 23rd: A rare Road-Win for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves Roster travels to New Jersey right before the holidays for a game against the NJ Nets, Twolves win 103-99

Dec 22nd: Timberwolves lost to the Atlanta Hawks at home in the Target Center, 112-87. Timberwolves Fans wonder where the team was? Kurt Rambis should have put the Timberwolves Dancers in...

Dec 20th: Not surprising, the Minnesota Timberwolves go to Boston to play the Celtics and walk away with another loss, though they didn't get trampled. Final score Celitcs 122- Timbewolves 104

Dec 18th: Timberwolves take on the Kings at home and win 112-96

Dec 16th: Timbewolves play the LA Clippers at the Target Center and despite a strong effort from Jonny Flynn, points don't get posted, plays don't get made and the Minnesota Timberwolves post a 95-120 loss.

The Minnesota Timberwolves need to step their game up

After an almost win-less November, I really had hoped that the Minnesota Timberwolves would have been scared into winning by the shear fear of being the last in their league... apparently not. The month of December has not been a great one for the Minnesota Timberwolves Roster. Although they have won a few games, 2 to be exact... both against the Utah Jazz (the one team that is consistently worse than we are), the wins have not been pretty and all of the other games have been really ugly... I mean really ugly.

In my opinion there are three things that really need to change if the New Year is going to bring any hope of Minnesota Timberwolves Victories. 1st) Minnesota Timberwolves Head Coach Kurt Rambis needs to step up his leadership... he inherited a rough basketball program, HOWEVER... he implemented a new offense and HE needs to be the one who makes sure that it is being played correctly.

Which brings me to #2) Jonny Flynn needs to figure out how to play a triangle offense. I don't claim to be a basketball genius but the way it has been explained to me, it seems that it really should not be as hard as Jonny Flynn is making it seem. PASS THE BASKETBALL...

Finally, I think that Kevin Love can not be the only star on the Minnesota Timberwolves Roster, although he is a Wolves Vetran, the other players seem to look to him for everything, I would like to see other players, like Jonny Flynn who really have lots of talent, step up and be team leaders as well.

Thats not asking too much is it? Oh I would also like us to start winning more, too...

It is not a good day to be a Minnesota Timberwolves Fan

The Minnesota Timberwolves SUCK, there I said it... it was like pulling a band-aid off, crappy but over with quickly.

This season was supposed to be the Timberwolves turnaround season. With Timberwolves Rookie Jonny Flynn leading the force on the court and Kurt Rambis under the direction of David Kahn leading the team from the bench... neither are happening.

Last night's game against the Trailblazers was the 8th consecutive loss for the Minnesota Timberwolves. I for one am not sure I can live through another heartbreaking season of T-wolves almosts... several games we have gotten close, we are up and are ready to go on a breakaway. And then we turn the ball over. In my opinion turnovers have cost us about 6 of the last 8 games. HOLD ONTO THE BALL boys!

I want to love you guys, but you are making it really hard right now!

MN Timberwolves Play a Great Season Opener Thanks to Jonny Flynn

The Minnesota Timberwolves opened their regular season at the Target Center last night against the New Jersey Nets. Despite a rough pregame and several heartbreaking losses that could have been avoided, Jonny Flynn and the Timberwolves came out swinging last night despite missing Kevin Love who is still recovering from hand surgery.

Last nights game started rocky for the Timberwolves and at the start of the 4th quarter the Minnesota Timberwolves were down by 16 points. That is when newcomer to the Timberwolves Roster, Jonny Flynn proved yet again why David Khan selected him immediatly after selecting Ricky Rubio (who ended up not coming to Minnesota, giving Flynn a chance to prove that he was the better choice even if he was a lower draft pick). Flynn helped turn the 4th quarter around scoring 11 of his 18 points in the last half both from the line and on strong drives to the hoop.

This weekend the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jonny Flynn take on the Cleveland Cavaliers and are hell bent on making sure that game 2 for Kurt Rambis is another win. Timberwolves Tickets are available still at cheap prices, but as the Minnesota Timberwolves 2009-2010 Season progresses these ticket deals will not last. Buy Timberwolves Tickets today!

Minnesota Timberwolves Preseason leaves fans doubting that the new Timberwolves Roster will be the winning team

Sports in the Twin Cities lately have been exciting, the Twins made it to the playoffs, the Wild have some great games, the Minnesota Vikings are still undefeated and then there are the Timberwolves....

This summer Kurt Rambis promised that under his leadership the Minnesota Timberwolves would come under a new era, an era that would WIN... Well Mr. Rambis, we have had 5 Minnesota Timberwolves Preseason games and ONE WIN. But before this post goes all the way to negative town, I will say that the 4 losses the Timberwolves have suffered have all been relatively close losses. The Timberwolves held the Chicago Bulls to only a 4 point lead in Chicago. Not too bad.

With rookie, Jonny Flynn stepping up game after game to prove he deserves the hype and attention he received all summer, I'm hoping that as the season continues these point gaps will get smaller and smaller until my boys are on the other side of the score.

This week the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, the Detroit Pistons on Thursday before returning to the Target Center and their home court on Friday to take on the Toronto Raptors. Minnesota Timberwolves Tickets are still available for Friday's game and will be the Cheapest Timberwolves Tickets you will find for the rest of the season, even if the score doesn't count the game is going to be great... Flynn and company are sure to be out to prove that the Target Center is their house.

Mark Blount will not play for the Timberwolves

Mark Blount playing for former team the Heat After signing Mark Blount to the Timberwolves roster only a month ago, the Timberwolves announced in a press conference on Wednesday that the 9-year NBA veteran who was slated to play center for the Timberwolves will not be coming to Minnesota or joining the Twolves roster.

The announcement was said to be mutual. The Timberwolves gave Blount's agent permission to start shopping him to other teams where he would see a considerable amount more of game time. Blount will remain in his Miami home while this search for a team goes on.

David Kahn told the press, "I want to thank Mark for being understanding of our situation of having such a young team, and in particular many young big men that need playing time for their development. Given these circumstances, it would be extremely difficult to find a significant role for Mark, and he deserves the opportunity to be a part of someone's rotation for the upcoming season."

Timberwolves writers and critics are guessing that by eliminating veterans like Blount and Quentin Richardson, who Blount was traded for, David Kahn and Timberwolves Head Coach Kurt Rambis are planning on playing the very young roster that includes Jonny Flynn quite a bit. Perhaps in an attempt to give these rookies the experience they need to be a championship winning team in the next 2-3 seasons.

Kurt Rambis announces assistant coaching staff

Minnesota Timberwolves Head Coach Kurt Rambis announced two new members to his coaching staff early last week. Kurt Rambis was hired earlier this summer and vowed the change the face of Timberwolves basketball. Along with David Kahn, Kurt Rambis has worked tirelessly to recruit players and coaches who will breathe talent and winning ability into the Timberwolves franchise.

Rambis announced that Bill Laimbeer, a former Detroit Pistons player, will be assistant coach. Before coming to Minnesota, Bill Laimbeer coached the WNBA Shock, leading them to 3 WNBA Championships in 6 years. Laimbeer left the Shock to be a part of the NBA.

Also joining the Timberwolves coaching staff is Reggie Theus former Sacramento Kings coach.

Task #1 for Kurt Rambis: Sign RUBIO

With the summer heat at its hottest and the last few weeks of summer clinging on, it seems only fitting that the Timberwolves soap-operatic relationship with Ricky Rubio continues. After finalizing a contract deal with new head coach Kurt Rambis this week, the Timberwolves number one objective now seems to be nailing down Ricky Rubio, the 18 year old from Spain. Rubio has been talked about by critics as having the potential to be the best point guard of his generation... that is if he can figure out how to deal with his Spanish ball-club and move to Minnesota.

In an interview this week Rambis said that Rubio wants to come here, he wants to play here but is trying to get all of the contract stuff figured out. Rambis also told reporters that if Rubio comes he would most definitely see playing time, probably as a starter even over Johnny Flynn who has already signed a contract with the Timberwolves. Perhaps, Rambis is trying to woo Rubio even harder. Though unless there is a monetary miracle, with the Timberwolves only legally allowed to contribute $500,000 to his buy out Ricky Rubio has a lot of cash to come up with in a big hurry.
